Pre-Vis - Mitchells vs the Machines

Pre-Vis

Pitch Vis - Pre-Vis

Everything, even pitch vis, can benefit from pre-visualization. What we are trying to do is get as close to the feel of the final product as possible, so we can understand where we need more or less and understand if we are even on the right path.

I animated the first three shots in this pre-vis test. The last two shots were animated by two other artists.

Pitch Vis - Newsroom Version

While developing this piece, the location was a constant variable. We started in a white void, moved to a robot factory break room, then a newsroom, and finally the movie theater snack bar.

The version with the newsroom lasted the longest and only switched to the movie theater during the final week. I had to work quickly to modify the content in this version to work in the newsroom environment.

You can see the first shot is not completely rendered, and some of the audio is missing.

Character Rigging

I rigged all of the characters for pre-vis in this movie. I was asked at one point "Will these low resolution characters be able to act and be appealing?"

My response was to make a line up of the family and send that over to the art leadership to show it is indeed possible :)
