Visual Development - Mitchells vs the Machines

Character 3D Visual Development

Pitch Vis

The goal was to create a piece to take to leadership to pitch the tone, mood, and feeling of Mitchells (at the time called Control, Alt, Escape!). I supervised the lighting and compositing, as well as animating two shots (sassy robots and the nacho cheese shot). I executed all of the FX animation and supervised the overall execution between departments. If you visit the pre vis page you can see different versions of this test (storyboards, layout, BG dev, etc.).

Rick - "Toon" Style

I created this "Toon" style as the primary look working with the director and production designer. They wanted a look that had colored outlines, varying line thickness, and lines that were filled in a messy fashion. These renders could then be used to guide production on lessons learned in what to and not to do.

Rick - "Real" Style

While working towards the "Toon" like render, similar to the style seen in the final product, this version was created when the director asked, "What if it just looked like a Pixar movie?"

These types of tests are not unusual in production and are done with just as much thought as the final product.
